All I can see here is an opportunity for David Korn to get involved with these meetings at the highest level and be that stunning gadfly that makes everyone uncomfortable with the truth. You could single-handedly change Tacoma’s focus from growth to small sustainable communities within the larger community. Although I did just find out that 100 employees were recently laid of at the Pierce County Annex—what a mess there.
You could talk about the need for cooperatives so the money stays local and local banks so that the money stays local, the need for deconstruction of old parking lots for gardens, and the need for more well trained disaster therapists and free health clinics and public dances in the parks. If there was ever a time to think about people before money this is it. “As city council you have grave philosophical responsibility to this community in these perilous times.”
These things need to be said in front of a large audience over and over until the brightest get it—ironic that you have the time and freedom for this task. David, when you have all of the information, you are the smartest and bravest person I have come to know—and I am so proud to know you and say you are my friend.
