XYZ approached me two years ago, with possibly helping them with their Instagram and somehow, we never quite connected, but did advise them as to dos and don’ts, that is to say, the feasibility or practicality of what they had in mind. Probably suitability is a far better term, as it was less on mechanics and far more on approaches, since I am well schooled in the distribution of content in the Rapid Climate Change discussion professionally.
Willy nilly, recently the conversation emerged with budget and will. So start I did, revisiting their YouTube Channel, a Facebook account badly in need of pruning, and know how, as to how to get the word out and grow an audience, at Twitter with robust gusto.
Now five weeks later, as we grew from 358 to 758 followers, those less in the know, might say, ‘Ah, that is a good start. 112%, or a double in size and then some’. Not hardly. Please let me explain and in so doing, perchance educate the reader some:
When you have an untended account, old or fallow as it were, believe you me, you do NOT have hundreds of followers. You have ghost images, of hundreds of persons, from two, five, ten years ago, who once fostered the illusion that they followed you and that you wanted to feed their consumption of your content. There is no such thing.
Besides the very few quality users, that is to say, those who truly understand, appreciate, if not outright CONSUME your message who are or were there, some 95%, maybe 97% of those follwers are worthless. OK, I am too acerbic or caustic. Call it near worthless then if pleases you.
But even today, with now 354k views in three weeks, preceded by just 6,100 for the prior twenty days, very few of those who follow us can bring much to the table.
You HAVE to find, those with a low ratio of Following to Followers, which means they a. create or furnish their own content–if not in a compelling way, which confers values, or b. are WAY more discriminating in whom they follow. We on the other hand, within a week or so of starting, were followed by Elizabeth May, Chair of the Canadian Green Party, with 330,100 followers and only followed 6,960. Sorts as this, do not have helpers who will follow you (rarely if ever, the person of name), unless you really add value. Power users, want it, so that when they turn their feed on, they hear and see what they need, in such large volume, do not need to follow one more just to ‘rub elbows, with the rich and famous’.
I have hardly told this story yet. Just warming up. Then last week, we got followed by Climate School Strike famed, Greta Thunberg. 6.6M followers and only follows 2,460. Sorts as this, do not follow you to look good, see or be seen, but to enrich their experience or throngs of followers. What did we do? Add value, with smart images, timely stories, compelling text. I rest my case:

Grew Twitter following, for scientific thought leader, from 40 legitimate followers to 400 in five weeks, including Time Magazine, Person of the year member, and Nobel Peace Prize nominee. While they had 358 to start, of them, some 318 were defunct (something, easy to see). Now at 758, but the true core is active and bone fide. That’s 6.1k for prior twenty days, then once acting on account, 347,400 for next thirty days. Viral tweets at 30, 40,000.
