I got a call from K in the fall of 2011 who was eager to help me refine his presentation, to the City Council of Portland, for a wide ranging Coliseum area joint venture involving broadband, restaurants, exhibition space, investment, and visionary concept. Unfortunately, much work had already been done, and he did not need edits and graphics, but a complete overhaul. Which I told him.
In the spring of 2012, after meeting with ‘The Director’ and her staff, in Bellevue, I had a chance to go down to Portland and see what I could make of life there, and so we started on very agreeable terms.
In two weeks, I quickly interviewed him, downloaded his entire concept to my brain, crafted a carefuly two page summary, and a feasibility plan of his venture.
Truth be told, I was not sure then, nor now, what the business venture is, and the main rub of start ups is often lack of capital. I care about K. so went on after he could no longer support our transaction, and made a business relationship, near friendship that still lasts to this day.
It is not his fault he did not know, nor I, for the concept is so vast it needed and still needs a lot more development. But we learned to work together and now, three years latter still do–materially.
